Introducing Mousetrap Theatre Projects
MTP is a theatre education charity dedicated to bringing the magic of theatre into the lives of disadvantaged young people.
We take over 12,000 young people to see a top London production each year. We enhance that experience with education programmes in schools and communities, using theatre as a catalyst to explore ideas, learn new skills, develop creativity and offer new perspectives.
The impact of a theatre visit on young people can be profound. It can change their attitudes, open doors to new possibilities, explore a different aspect of life, teach them something new or simply make them laugh. As one teacher from Walthamstow Academy said to us after a Mousetrap theatre trip,
‘It has opened up a new world to our students and begun to open their eyes to the possibilities that theatre has to offer… “life-changing” would not be an overstatement’
What Makes Us Different?
While many theatres work within their own community, we take young people who rarely leave their local area into London’s centre for their theatre visit. We broaden their horizons, inspire them by showing them what is beyond their doorstep and open their eyes to London’s incredible theatre scene.
We are not venue-based and being independent of any theatre or producer, we are in the unique position to work across the breadth of London theatre. This gives us the freedom to take young people to see shows across the spectrum – plays, musicals, dance, opera - that will we believe will stimulate and inspire them.
We serve young people mainly aged 11-18 yrs old. We aim to reach those who have never been to the theatre before, particularly in the West End, for financial, social or cultural reasons. We prioritise youth groups and schools with a large portion of young people who are disadvantaged and run specialist programmes for those who have special needs or a sensory disability.
Eddie Redmayne Talks Mousetrap
Check out the great promo film from our lovely patron Eddie Redmayne talking about our work. This was shown before Eddie's film Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them at Picturehouse Cinemas in London.
