About Family First Nights

It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to afford a family night out in the West End. Our whole family had an absolutely brilliant time!

Celebrating its 21st year in 2019, our Family First Nights programme enables disadvantaged families to enjoy top London theatre shows for just £6 a ticket.

Over 10,000 families have participated in Family First Nights since the programme began in 1998, and it continues to play a vital part in making London’s Theatre and Arts scene accessible to families living below the poverty line, or facing challenging circumstances.

Family First Nights runs throughout the summer holidays and features a wide and diverse selection of shows each year: from celebrated West End musicals like Wicked, to stage adaptations of much-love children’s books like The Gruffalo, to family-friendly Shakespeare, Proms and more!  We provide additional support and information to families every step of the way, to ensure they have the best experience possible.

How it works

Family First Nights is a programme exclusively for low-income families who have been identified and referred to us through partner organisations. We welcome a fresh cohort of 500 new families to participate each year, and once a family has participate they can stay on as a member of our Family First nights email ‘club’, to whom we continue to send exclusive theatre ticket offers every month thereafter.

Why we do it

We believe every child should have the opportunity to experience live theatre, irrespective of their economic background.

Just one family theatre visit through Family First Nights can have a lasting impact on a child’s development, creativity and confidence. It provides families with an opportunity to connect, bond and share an experience together: a real-life experience, away from digital distractions and the pressures of daily life. It also enables families from across London to meet and interact, to deepen their sense of community.

Family First Nights isn’t about waving a magic wand and delivering a one-off experience: we keep in touch with all families who participate in the programme each year, and continue to send them opportunities and ticket offers sent exclusively to us by venues and event producers.

Life is challenging, but we believe theatre is a valuable and vital resource for supporting and inspiring families. That first family theatre trip can have, and has had, a life-changing impact on many.

Living in such a culturally rich city can feel surreal if you are only a bystander, not a participant. This was our ‘sunshine moment’.
