Jobs & Opportunities
Kick-start your career with Mousetrap!
Jobs in the Arts are highly-sought after and it can be challenging to get a break, especially at the start of your career. We are passionate about giving young people the opportunity to develop their skills and gain valuable experience to support their future careers, and we offer lots of Work Experience and Student Placement opportunities throughout the year.
Our placements offer students the opportunity to:
Gain valuable insights into our work and all that goes into running our projects
Learn more about how the theatre industry and charity sector works
Gain practical skills and experience to add to their CV
If the timing is right, see a show or two!
Placements are highly-sought after and our calendar is always pretty full, so please get in touch and we’ll do our best to welcome you on board!
Who we can accommodate
Secondary school students aged 16+: We offer 2 week office/administrative-based work experience placements throughout the year.
University students: We offer placements to Undergraduate / Postgraduate students from any discipline, usually for 3 months and for 3 days per week. Applicants must demonstrate a strong level of English and communication skills, as these are essential to the nature of the work you will be doing. The timing and duration of these placements can be negotiated. Paid university Internships are only possible with financial support from your university or other funding arranged by the student.
Unfortunately we cannot offer graduate internships or any paid work experience, as we are not in the financial position to pay these entry level positions. However, we are happy to provide course requirement work placements or short term career development work experience. There is usually the opportunity to accompany a group to the theatre and we are happy to provide students with a reference at the end.
Due to insurance we cannot offer placements to those under 16
How to apply
If you would like to apply for a placement please send your CV and an email explaining when and why you would like to undertake work experience with us to our Director, Susan Whiddington: firstname.lastname@example.org
Placements are limited so please apply with plenty of notice, particularly in the summer, as student places can get booked up 6 months to a year in advance. We will then contact you to confirm and can arrange an informal interview beforehand if required.
Please note our next available placements are from September 2019
Work experience at Mousetrap
What can you expect from a work experience placement at Mousetrap? Everyone’s experience is unique, but if you read Chiara’s week in the life blog you’ll get a pretty good idea of what to expect!
University placement students
Will Arnold is a BA Hons English Language & Literature graduate who joined us on full-time placement during his 2nd year of study. He did a tremendous job of helping us to deliver a number of key projects, including the Mousetrap Awards.
We’re extremely grateful and happy to receive lots of enquiries about volunteering, and we are always keen to build up our established pool of volunteers. We can be flexible to your needs in term of days and times available, but please bear in mind that we may not be able to accommodate you at certain times in the year.
How to apply
Please email email@example.com, explaining why you would like to volunteer for us, what sort of support you can offer and when you would be available: including the date you are available from / to, times and days of the week. If we have space we will then contact you to arrange a meeting where can find about more about the charity and meet the team.
Please note that due to our insurance we cannot take on young people under the age of 16. If you are under 18 you will need to download and complete a Parental/Guardian Consent. Read our Volunteers Policy here.
